You Won't Believe this is Australia!
Located smack bang in the middle of the South Pacific Ocean, somewhere between Australia and New Zealand, you'll find the incredibly scenic Norfolk Island. I was lucky enough to spend a week there, just last month, with some good friends and extremely talented photographers. Normally, when visiting a destination I have yet to lay eyes on, I make the effort to do quite a bit of research, just to get an idea of what to expect. For some reason, for this trip, I decided against that. And let me tell you, I was in awe from the moment we landed!
As our Air NZ flight approached what we could only assume was Norfolk Island, it was at that moment we knew we were in for an amazing week ahead! The first thing I noticed as we neared the island was the sheer abundance of Norfolk Island Pines. These pines feature in quite a few of my shots because... well honestly, it was hard to frame a shot without them!
One thing I hadn't realised prior to arriving in Norfolk Island was just how perfect the temperature is... all of the time! You're probably thinking "Matt, you likely just arrived on a mild day; a day between two incredibly hot days, right?" Nope! Norfolk Island's temperature can sit anywhere between 10 and 26 degrees celsius, depending on the season. And according to my trusted sources at Wikipedia the absolute maximum temperature recorded on Norfolk Island was 28.4ºC, whilst the lowest temperature recorded was 6.2ºC. Does it get any better?
I'm still in disbelief that a place like this is actually Australian soil. It's as if every coastal town in mainland Australia was mashed together to create this amazing little island.
